Neighborhood Revitalization — Home Repair Program
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento spent most of its first 25 years focusing on building new homes for low income families who couldn’t purchase a home through traditional means. After the housing crisis, Habitat began working with community partners to rehabilitate older homes that had previously been foreclosed on in an effort to continue assisting low income families and reduce neighborhood blight in some of Sacramento’s hardest hit areas.
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento now hopes to expand its restoration of area neighborhoods by working with existing homeowners who are having difficulty maintaining their homes. Habitat will provide services such as home repairs, weatherization, and exterior beautification. These projects will include exterior painting, fence replacement and repair, landscaping, minor exterior repairs, and more critical repairs on a case-by-case basis.
Homeowners will pay only a percentage of the full cost of repair on an income-based sliding scale. Homeowners must also put in “sweat equity” and help work on repairs.
Criteria for Home Repair Applicants
 Applicants must own and occupy the home as their primary residence.
 Applicants must be willing to partner with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento. Homeowners must contribute “sweat equity” or volunteer labor to the repair project and the repairs of other homes if physically able. Those who are not physically able to perform work on the home must participate in other volunteer opportunities.
 Applicants must have the ability to pay a portion of the total repair costs. Qualified homeowners will earn between 20% and 80% of the area median income of the county in which they live.
 Homeowner’s income should fall within the following “low income” limits as adjusted per household size:
