To: Veterans and Supporters of Veterans
We are pleased to announce that Sacramento County Officials have formed a Veteran’s Treatment Court for Veterans charged with a criminal offense. Eligible Sacramento County residents will be diverted into treatment programs with more options than our regular criminal justice system, including expungement or reduction of charges. Participants must suffer from sexual trauma, traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse, or mental health problems stemming from service in the United States Military and be eligible for VA Benefits. There are also restrictions on the types of crimes that are appropriate for the program.
Participants will also be paired with Mentors to help them through the criminal justice system and treatment. Mentors must be Veterans that can commit to a minimum of one year participation, complete an orientation/training, and be able to pass a criminal background check (not currently on Probation and no Felonies within the last 6 years).
If you know a Veteran with a current criminal case in Sacramento County please have them contact Public Defender, Ryan Raftery, or have them ask their attorney about Veteran’s Treatment Court.
If you are interested in being a Mentor, email Dale Wrigglesworth with a subject line of VTC Mentor and include the information listed below. Dale will contact you back directly with more information on our Veteran’s Mentoring Program.
